Who: Startup Weekend Honolulu
When: February 7th (6pm) to February 9th (9pm)
307 A Kamani St Honolulu, HI 96814
What: Startup Weekend Honolulu (HNL) is a 54-hour event designed around one goal, taking a simple idea and bringing it to market. Startup Weekend HNL is part of a global network UP Global, a non-profit that provides superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing LEAN Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts. Participants are challenged to create working startups during this event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks. All teams are mentored by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local/global entrepreneurs. The weekend is centered around action, innovation, and education. Whether you are looking for feedback on a idea, a co-founder, specific skill sets, or a team to help you execute, Startup Weekend HNL is the perfect environment in which to test your idea and take the first steps towards launching your own startup.
Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1000 past events in 100 countries around the world starting over 8000 startup companies.
The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 400 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.
All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.
Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. If you want to put yourself in the shoes of an entrepreneur, register now for the best weekend of your life!
