The 2013 Hawaii Annual VC Summit is coming up fast (get your tickets here), so over the next few weeks, we’re taking a detailed look at each agenda item the summit has to offer. As we mentioned, this event is expected to attract hundreds of entrepreneurs, small business owners, and investors, so if you fall into one of those categories–or want to–you should definitely attend.
1) Thursday, December 4th, included in the summit program, is the Crowdfunding Workshop, led by Jonathan Sandlund, a noted crowdfunding expert, as well as local crowdfunding veterans. Everyone who attends the summit at the Sheraton Waikiki will participate in this session, and it’s included in the price of a summit ticket.
2) Friday, December 5th, an extra session, Dive Deep into Crowdfunding, requires an additional $30 ticket for entry (or a combined $130 for an early bird ticket). Jonathan Sandlund will lead this session, which covers the elements of successful crowdfunding. This session is limited to 40 people.
How important is this new mode of funding? According to a recent report from Massolution, “(global) crowdfunding platforms raised $2.7 billion and successfully funded more than 1 million campaigns in 2012.” The research goes on to forecast an 81% increase in global crowdfunding in 2013, to $5.1 billion. For perspective, venture capital investments in the US alone totaled $26.5 billion during the same year, showing how much potential crowdfunding might have.
Crowdfunding Workshop, Dec 4, Sheraton Waikiki
The Crowdfunding Workshop, included for all summit attendees at the Sheraton Waikiki, will provide a primer on the overall topic of crowdfunding: What is it? Why is it important? How can entrepreneurs use it? How should investors use it? Who is doing it well (and who isn’t)?
This workshop is included in your VC Summit ticket, as it is part of the December 4th agenda.
Dive Deep into Crowdfunding, Dec 5, First Hawaiian Center
The bonus day-two event, Dive Deep into Crowdfunding, provides a detailed look into the topic of crowdfunding. This separate three-hour session, held at The Board Room in First Hawaiian Center, covers the overall marketspace and the elements of successful crowdfunding. Jonathan Sandlund, founder of thecrowdcafe.com, a leading provider of research and data on the global crowd investing industry, and localinvestors.org, will lead this event.
Tickets to this extra event are an additional $30 and can be purchased through the VC Summit’s ticketing site. You may attend only this session for $30, or you may attend the entire VC Summit plus this session for $130 (early bird price).
