Venture Capital Summit to Highlight Hawaii’s Startup Innovators

VCS2013

The 2013 Hawaii Annual VC Summit, scheduled for Wednesday, December 4th, promises to deliver a boatload of valuable insights from Hawaii’s best and brightest entrepreneurs, along with advice from local and mainland venture capitalists, and demonstrations from our State’s most-promising new businesses. The event is expected to attract hundreds of entrepreneurs, small business owners, and investors, promising to make this the largest startup-focused event ever held in Hawaii!

VCS2013Highlighting the event is keynote speaker Don Dodge, an advisor to Google Ventures and the Developer Advocate at Google, which means that he helps developers build new applications on Google platforms and technologies. Don will be discussing the latest trends in the VC industry, as well as sharing his deep, relevant experience–valuable to any entrepreneur, tech or otherwise–which comes from having previously served as startup evangelist at Microsoft and as an on-the-ground veteran of five start-ups, including AltaVista, Napster, and Groove Networks.

What’s the Agenda?

The 2013 VC Summit is being held at Sheraton Waikiki from 8:00am to 6:30pm on Wednesday, December 4, and a $100 ticket (prices rise to $135 on November 27!) includes breakfast, lunch, and entry to the pau hana reception, as well as the following agenda:

  • Crowdfunding Workshop, covering the ins and outs of this rapidly evolving funding vehicle.

  • Startup Paradise Panel, featuring Peter Kay as moderator as top experts discuss Hawaii’s potential as a startup hub.

  • Financing Case Studies, featuring the venture financing stories of several local startups.

  • Keynote by Don Dodge, advisor to Google Ventures and veteran of five successful startups.

  • Demo Day, with presentations from startups currently participating in Blue Startups and Energy Excelerator.

  • Pau Hana Reception

This year’s Summit is being produced by Sultan Ventures and Hawaii Strategic Development Corporation (HSDC), and is supported by a cross-section of Hawaii’s startup ecosystem, including HTDC, Blue Startups, HiBEAM, The Queen’s Health Systems, Startup Capital Ventures, Energy Excelerator, Arsenal Venture Partners, PACE, Hawaii Student Entrepreneurs, and HVCA.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available, so if you’re interested in helping support this marquee event, there’s still time to contact Sultan Ventures.

A Crowdfunding Extra

A bonus event, Dive Deep into Crowdfunding, will be held on Thursday, December 5, and will, unsurprisingly, dive deeper into the topic of crowdfunding. While the Crowdfunding Workshop agenda item included in the VC Summit simply touches on the potential of crowdfunding, this separate three-hour session covers the overall marketspace and the elements of successful crowdfunding.

Dive Deep into Crowdfunding, presented by HiBEAM and Goodsill, is being held separately at The Board Room in First Hawaiian Center, and will be helmed by Jonathan Sandlund, founder of thecrowdcafe.com, a leading provider of research and data on the global crowd investing industry, and localinvestors.org.

Tickets to this extra event are an additional $30 and can be purchased through the VC Summit’s ticketing site.
